Newlywed strangled for dowry

A newlywed was strangled allegedly by her husband for dowry at Kawarkanda village in Dhobaura upazila yesterday.

The deceased was Rashida Begum, 20, wife of farmer Saddam Hossain of the village.

Quoting locals, Shawkat Alam, officer-in-charge of Dhobaura Police Station, said Rashida, daughter of Abdus Salam of Gufinpur village, married Saddam, 25, two months ago.

After their marriage, Saddam often tortured Rashida for dowry, he said.

Saddam strangled Rashida following an altercation over the issue early in the morning.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The body bore several injury marks, said the OC.
