No tailback but slow traffic on Dhaka-Tangail highway

Dhaka-Sylhet, Dhaka-Mawa traffic running smooth
Star Online Report

There is no tailback on the Dhaka-Tangail highway but traffic is heavier than usual and is moving slowly from Chandra in Gazipur to Elenga in Tangail, a 64-km stretch, since early today.

A 10-kilometre stretch of the Dhaka-Tangail highway -- Chandra to Mirzapur -- saw a tailback from 4:00am to 10:00am, reports our correspondent quoting Khalilur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gorai Highway Police from the spot.

"The Dhaka-bound cattle-laden trucks and empty trucks returning from the capital have resulted in excess pressure on the highway. The traffic is three to four times higher than other times," the police official said.

"We are continuously working to ensure smooth movement of traffic," he added.

Meanwhile, traffic on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway is moving smoothly since last reported around 2:30pm by our Narsingdi correspondent.

Traffic on the Dhaka-Mawa route also saw no rush as 17 ferries are operating, our Munshiganj correspondent reports quoting Assistant General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation Khandaker Khaled Newaz.
