Robber hurt during 'gunfight'

A robber sustained bullet injuries during a 'shootout' between police and his cohorts in Islamkathi area under Tala upazila of the district early yesterday.The injured was identified as Atiar Morol, 34, son of late Afsar Uddin, of Lautara village.M Rezaul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tala Police Station, said, a police team, acting on a tip-off, raided Islamkathi area  where a gang of robbers was taking preparation for committing a robbery in the area. Sensing the presence of the team, the robbers opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate. Police said Atiar received bullets during the gunfight while his cohorts managed to escape. He was admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital at around 3:00am. Masura Khatun, wife to Atiar, claimed that police from Jatpur outpost detained her husband on Saturday night. Police recovered two shutter guns, two bullets and two knives from the spot.
