Star Online Report

In purview of Indo-Pak tension and postponement of top South Asia summit, the Saarc nations including Iran will sit in Dhaka tomorrow for a three-day meet on telecommunication.

The three-day South Asian Telecommunication Regulatory Council (SATRC), that is the body of all the telecom regulators in Saarc nations, will begin tomorrow.

It is commendable to see that despite the postponement of the Saarc summit, other bodies with Saarc member countries such as SATRC are functioning, said Shahjahan Mahmud, chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

He was speaking at a press briefing held at BTRC building in Dhaka ahead of the programme.

Discussions in the meet will highlight use of cross-border SIM cards and the high charge of roaming SIM cards and how to bring it down among other issues.
