Schoolgirl killed after rape, one arrested

A schoolgirl was killed after rape at Borokarimpur-Majhipara village in Pirganj upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The victim was identified as Shyamoli Rani, 10, a Class IV student of Dariyapur Government Primary School in the upazila.

Following a case filed by Shyamoli's father Shyamol Chandra Das with Pirganj Police Station on Friday afternoon, police arrested an accused name Suresh Chandra Das, 45, son of Lalmohan Chandra Das of the village.

Police and locals said a gang of criminals entered the house of Shyamol Chandra Das when he and his wife Dulu Rani went to attend a 'Lila Kirtan' (a religious function) in the area, leaving their daughter Shyamoli alone at their house on Thursday night.

They raped Shyamoli and later strangled her. 

After returning home around 1:00am, Shyamol and Dulu found their daughter's body lying on the floor.

Being informed, police went to the house Friday morning, recovered the body and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Moksed Ali, of the police station said victim's father Shyamol Chandra Das filed a case on Friday afternoon, accusing Suresh and three others.

Law enforcers are raiding different areas to arrest the remaining three accused.
