SP wife killing: 2 accused killed in Ctg ‘gunfight'
Two people accused for the killing of SP Babul Akter's wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, were killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Rangunia upazila in Chittagong this morning.
The deceased were identified as Nurul Islam alias Rashed, 27, hailing from Islampur and Md Nurunnabi, 28, of Rajanagar in Rangunia, reports our correspondent quoting Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir of Rangunia Police Station.
Acting on a tip off, Detective Branch (DB) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) conducted the drive at Thandachhari area of Ranirhat at Rangunia around 3:10am to nab the suspected killers. When the team reached the spot, the criminals, opened fired targeting police and attacked them with sharp weapons. In retaliation police also opened fire, triggering a "gunfight", said the OC.
The injured criminals were rushed to a local health complex where on duty doctors declared them dead, confirmed Md Kamruzzaman, DB assistant commissioner.
Three policemen were also injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment in the health complex, Kamruzzaman, also investigation officer (IO) added, and they were transferred to Police Line Hospital in Chittagong city.
Police also recovered two pistols, two magazines and two knifes from the spot.
However, family members of the deceased have claimed that police had issued a ban on the two from leaving the country, but they were picked up by the police beforehand.
"THEY KILLED MY SON"
According to Rashed's father, police picked up his son and Nabi from Uttar Gostarpar Militarypol area under Boalkhali upazila on June 23.
"They picked up my son earlier, and now police is saying he was killed in gunfight. I have held a press conference earlier so that my son is produced before the court," said Ahmed adding that if his son was found guilty, court could award him punishment.
"We did not pick anyone earlier. For hiding out their criminals activities, the families created the story," IO Kamruzzamna told The Daily Star when contacted.
