Varsity teachers’ recruitment: Govt for written test
The government has recommended public university authorities to take written test along with viva voce for the appointment of teachers in a bid to curb irregularities in the recruitment process.
The education ministry today published a notification on its website which reads that a letter dated April 13, 2016, undersigned by Deputy Secretary Laila Arjumand Banu, sent to the secretary of University Grants Commission.
Earlier, candidates only had to sit for a viva voce to be recruited as public university teachers.
Taking written examination alongside viva voce will be helpful to test the merit of the applicants for the teaching positions and curb irregularities in the recruitment process, the letter read.
According to the letter, the ministry has also recommended verification of the applicants' personal information by police or investigation agencies in order to make sure that the applicants will not be involved in any anti-government activities if they are recruited as university teachers.
Being autonomous bodies, the public universities earlier did not need to carry out any verification of applicants' information by police or investigation agencies.
