The popular television drama “Eta Amaderi Golpo”, directed by Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Raz, is nearing its conclusion, leaving audiences deeply emotional. Monira Mithu’s portrayal of a mother in the drama has moved millions to tears and earned her widespread acclaim.

An immensely talented actress, Monira Mithu considers this role one of the most impactful of her career. In a recent conversation with The Daily Star, she reflected on the overwhelming response to the drama and her journey as an artiste.

Responding to the audience’s emotional reactions and praise, she said, “I am an actor. I have to keep working. This is what I know how to do, so I act. I don’t think too much about it. Still, who doesn’t like appreciation or praise? I like it too. So the audience’s appreciation has touched me.”

She also shared that fellow actors have reached out to her with admiration. “Yes, I have received love. Actor Apurba called me and said, ‘Your performance touched me so deeply! How did you act so vividly? You have done an outstanding job.’ I really appreciated his words.”

Recalling a previous collaboration, she added, “I worked with Apurba in a project titled ‘Nihoto Nokkhotro’, where I played the mother of Shahid Azad—a mother who hadn’t eaten rice for 14 years. That work also received a lot of praise.”
Interestingly, she noted that even those who have stepped away from acting were deeply moved by her performance. “Those who have left acting praised me the most. Some even cried. Some said, ‘We have a Monira Mithu among us!’ That overwhelmed me. I am grateful and full of love for everyone who watched the drama.”

For Mithu, certain works bring a unique sense of fulfillment, and this drama is one of them. “As an artiste, some works give me deep satisfaction. This drama is one of those,” she said.
Speaking candidly about her career, she acknowledged the challenges that come with time. “I am getting older. Maybe I won’t get many great opportunities. Still, I am continuing to act as much as I can.”

She credited director Mostafa Kamal Raz for the drama’s success. “The credit for the immense response to this drama goes to the director. Raz made this drama with great dedication. He gave the artistes freedom, which allowed us to perform beautifully. Otherwise, it would not have been possible to portray the emotional scenes so effectively.”

She went on to praise him further, saying, “This is the best work of Raz’s career. He has worked very hard and with great care. I believe he will live on through his work.”

On the role of effort and faith, she remarked, “If you work hard, the Creator rewards you. Raz has proven that.”

Having spent 22 years in the acting industry, Monira Mithu has appeared in numerous dramas and earned the love of audiences over the years. Reflecting on the drama’s popularity, she said, “Viewers are watching ‘Eta Amaderi Golpo’ with great interest. The story has touched them.”
