The newly elected executive committee of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association for the 2026–2028 term officially assumed office on Wednesday (July 8), taking the oath at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).

The ceremony, held at BFDC’s Floor No. 8, was attended by all 21 members of the newly elected executive committee, including president Shiba Shanu and general secretary Joy Chowdhury. Outgoing general secretary Misha Sawdagor administered the oath after welcoming the new committee members with floral garlands.

With the oath-taking, the committee formally began its two-year tenure.

Addressing the gathering, Misha Sawdagor expressed optimism about the new leadership.

“Shiba Shanu is like my brother, and Joy is like my son. I hope they will provide dynamic leadership in the coming days,” he said. Referring to defeated presidential candidate Arman, he added that inviting him to attend the swearing-in ceremony was “their first achievement” and urged committee members to attend meetings regularly.

In his remarks, Shiba Shanu called for unity following the election.

“Now that the election is over, we are all one. We want to move the Artistes’ Association forward together,” he said. “As we promised before the election, we will work for artistes who are currently unemployed. We want to uphold the association’s dignity, professionalism and development by working with both those who won and those who did not.”

The event was attended by artistes, producers and association members, alongside invited guests including filmmaker Kazi Hayat, Chotku Ahmed, Film Exhibitors’ Association president Awlad Hossain Ujjal, Directors’ Association president Shahin Sumon, and actor Helal Khan.

The election, held on July 3, saw Shiba Shanu elected president and Joy Chowdhury elected general secretary.

The newly elected committee also includes vice-presidents Elias Cobra and DA Tayeb; joint general secretary Subrata; organising secretary Sony Rahman; international affairs secretary Parvez Chowdhury Abir; office and publicity secretary Jacky Alamgir; cultural and sports secretary Maruf Aqib; and treasurer Kamruzzaman Kamal.

The 11 elected executive members are Ali Raj, Kabila, Kayes Arju, Jesmin, Nasrin, Farhad, Shipon Mitra, Raka, Chikon Ali, Shirin Shila and Sushanta.
