Renowned Nazrul Sangeet artiste and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra singer Dalia Nausheen passed away today at 12:57 PM while undergoing treatment.

She had been unwell for quite some time, frequently moving between hospital and home, and had long been battling cancer. As her condition deteriorated, she was admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka on March 27, where she breathed her last this afternoon.

Her janaza will be held today after Maghrib at Gulshan Society Mosque, followed by her burial at Banani graveyard.

A prominent figure in Bangladesh’s music scene, Dalia Nausheen was widely respected as an exponent of Nazrul Sangeet and was also trained in North Indian classical music. Beyond her primary genre, she had a deep appreciation for timeless musical traditions, including Bangladeshi folk songs and Indian kirtans.

During the Liberation War in 1971, she joined the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra as one of the youngest artistes, contributing to the cultural resistance movement through music.

In recognition of her contributions to the arts, she was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2020 and the Nazrul Padak in 2022.

She is survived by two sons—one residing in the United States and the other in Spain.
