A 14-day exhibition titled “Robir Chitra, Chitrer Robi” opened on Saturday (May 9) at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, featuring paintings by Rabindranath Tagore alongside works inspired by the poet-philosopher by prominent Bangladeshi artists.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Nitai Roy Chowdhury at Gallery-2 of the National Art Gallery building as part of celebrations marking Tagore’s 165th birth anniversary.

Organised by the academy’s Fine Arts Department, the exhibition features reproductions of Tagore’s paintings as well as artworks reflecting his literary and philosophical legacy. It will remain open to visitors until May 23, daily from 11am to 8:00pm.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chowdhury said Tagore’s contribution to visual art remains one of the lesser-discussed yet significant dimensions of his creative life. “Rabindranath moved across multiple artistic forms, and painting was one of the distinctive expressions of his genius,” he said.

The exhibition is part of the academy’s four-day nationwide observance of Tagore’s birth anniversary, which also includes music, dance, recitation and theatre performances.
