As the evening set in, the venue came alive with performances celebrating Tagore’s literary and musical works.

Today marks the 85th death anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, whose timeless literary and artistic legacy continues to inspire generations. Goethe-Institut Bangladesh hosted a cosy evening on June 20 commemorating the Bard of Bengal, polymath Rabindranath Tagore’s enduring connection with Germany. Titled “From the Memory Lane”, the programme navigates Tagore’s visits that have strengthened the bond between Germany and the undivided Bengal of British India.

The performance will take place at Chandler Hall at 6 pm on Saturday (June 6) at the invitation of the Renaissance Drama Society Melbourne. Director Zahid Repon and actress Juana Sobnom travelled to Melbourne on May 29 to participate in the production and related events.

Celebrate Rabindranath Tagore’s heritage at the “Nabo Anande Jaago” event in Dhaka, organized by the Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh. This showcase honours iconic Thakurbari women, reviving their progressive cultural impact through fashion and music.

An exhibition showcasing portraits of Tagore and Nazrul, created by more than 100 students from 13 schools in and around Dhaka, was also held as part of the event.

Organised by the academy’s Fine Arts Department, the exhibition features reproductions of Tagore’s paintings as well as artworks reflecting his literary and philosophical legacy. It will remain open to visitors until May 23, daily from 11am to 8:00pm.

Bangladesh marked the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore yesterday through cultural programmes, discussions, music, poetry recitations, and dance performances held across three major venues in Dhaka.

The first evening of Chhayanaut’s two-day “Rabindra Utsab 1433” unfolded yesterday at the Chhayanaut Milonayoton, as artistes and audiences gathered to celebrate the 1433rd birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore through music, recitation and performance.

His characters feel deeply, sometimes overwhelmingly so, but they do not always understand what they feel, or what others feel in return.

It is easier to preserve the grand aesthetics of Tagore than to confront the difficult ones. Rabindra Sangeet survives in carefully rehearsed cadence, quotations circulate endlessly online, and institutions commemorate him with ritual precision.

The gift Tagore leaves us is not perfection. It takes a lot of courage to even ask the question in the first place. Therefore, let us take up the work he left unfinished, under the same banyan tree he sat under, with the same soft breeze he felt, as the soft afternoon light turns gold when the sun starts to set. Was it his time? Yes. Would he be different today? We will never know. But us, asking, is our tribute.

Rabindranath pointed to one particular path for rural advancement: the strategy of a cooperative approach.

Organised by the Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha, the 37th edition of the festival will take place at the Liberation War Museum auditorium in Agargaon. Preparations are now in their final stage, with artists engaged in regular rehearsals.

Rabindranath Tagore’s 165th birth anniversary and Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 127th birth anniversary will be observed with national-level celebrations, according to a preparatory meeting held on Sunday at the Secretariat.
