A special classical dance programme titled “Bharatanatyam Shondha” was held on Saturday evening at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium as part of the year-long silver jubilee celebrations of Nrityanchal.

Founded by renowned dancers Shibli Mohammad and Shamim Ara Nipa, Nrityanchal organised the event with the participation of 300 artistes. The programme began with a Pushpanjali performance, marking the start of an evening dedicated to the classical Indian dance form Bharatanatyam.

During the event, three distinguished dance gurus — Belayet Hossain Khan, Anisul Islam Hero and Dr Soma Mumtaz — received the Nrityanchal Award 2026 in recognition of their contributions to Bharatanatyam in Bangladesh.

The main presentation showcased the different stages and elements of Bharatanatyam. From Pushpanjali to Tillana and Mangalam, the performances highlighted the richness and discipline of the classical dance tradition.

Organisers said the silver jubilee celebrations will conclude in August with “Chhorachhonde Nrityomala”, a dance production based on children’s rhymes and songs.

They also expressed hope that the practice of dance and the arts would help foster creativity, cultural values and communal harmony among future generations.
