Reports claiming that “Surongo 2” will be released this Eid-ul-Azha have been dismissed by the film’s producer, who confirmed that the sequel is not slated for an Eid release.

Producer Shahriar Shakil told Prothom Alo that the widely circulated reports are inaccurate. “The film is not releasing this Eid,” he said.

The original film “Surongo”, directed by Raihan Rafi and produced by Alpha-i and Chorki, was released in 2023 and earned widespread acclaim. Afran Nisho rose to prominence for his portrayal of Masud in the film.

The character later reappeared in Rafi’s 2025 film “Taandob”, which reignited discussions around a potential sequel. While the producers have confirmed that “Surongo 2” is in development, they clarified that it will not be released during the upcoming Eid festival.

Recent media reports also suggested that Masuma Nabila and Nazifa Tushi would star in the sequel. However, Shakil denied these claims, stating that no discussions have taken place with either actor.

“The report was published without any communication with us. We have no idea who spread the news or why,” he said, adding that official announcements regarding the cast will be made in due course.

Alongside Nisho, the original film featured performances by Tama Mirza, Shahiduzzaman Selim and Mostafa Monwar, among others.
