Bangladeshi film “Roid” has earned another international accolade, winning Best Asian Film in the Critics’ Section at the 3rd Da Nang Asian Film Festival in Vietnam.

Director Mejbaur Rahman Sumon confirmed the news on social media on Saturday (July 4).
In a Facebook post, Sumon wrote, “I feel honoured that ‘Roid’ has won the Best Asian Film award in the Critics’ Section at the Da Nang Asian Film Festival.”

He added, “I would like to thank the festival authorities for providing a global platform for our stories. I am also grateful to everyone who believed in our film, as well as to the jury members—Kong Rithdee, Hoang Cam Giang, and Hoang Thu Hang.”

Earlier, “Roid” had been selected to compete in the festival’s Asian Film Competition section. The film has now gone on to receive the Critics’ Section award for Best Asian Film.

The film stars Mostafizur Noor Imran, Nazifa Tushi, and Gazi Rakayet in the lead roles. It was written by Mejbaur Rahman Sumon and Selina Banu Moni, while the screenplay was developed by Sumon, Jahin Faruk Amin, Siddiq Ahmed, and Sukarna Shahed Dhiman.

“Roid” was filmed in Sunamganj, Sylhet. The production also introduced many first-time performers, who underwent nearly six months of workshops in preparation for their roles.

Sumon’s debut feature, “Hawa”, received widespread acclaim both at home and abroad. Building on that success, his second feature, “Roid”, has continued to bring international recognition to Bangladeshi cinema.
