Souls celebrates Tagore with new musical rendition
To mark the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, legendary Bangladeshi band Souls has released a special rendition of the iconic song “Megh Boleche Jabo Jabo Ebar”, featuring vocals by Partha Barua. The track premiered on the band’s YouTube channel and Spotify on Thursday (May 7) at 5:00pm.
Speaking about the project, the band’s keyboardist Mir Masum said the song had been in the works for quite some time.
“We recorded the song a long while ago. It had always been our wish to have Partha da perform it. Everyone worked together beautifully on the track, and we tried to follow the original notation as meticulously as possible,” he said.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Souls is releasing nine unplugged tracks, three of which have already been unveiled. The band briefly paused the campaign to present this tribute to Tagore.
From next week, the band will resume releasing one song every week. Their timeless classic “Mon Shudhu Mon Chhuyeche” is next in line to be reintroduced to listeners through the unplugged series.
Talking about the band’s recent activities, Mir Masum told Bangla Tribune that drummer Abhijit Sengupta has recently joined the group.
“We have been regularly jamming with him. Over the past two months, we have performed at several concerts, and more shows are lined up, including performances abroad. Altogether, Souls is going through a very busy and exciting time,” he added.
Members of the band believe the tribute release will strike a chord with listeners and create renewed interest among fans of both Souls and Rabindra Sangeet.
