Sumana Chatterjee mesmerises Dhaka with soulful musical evening
Noted Kolkata-based singer Sumana Chatterjee captivated audiences in Dhaka with a live performance at a special musical evening jointly organised by Artist Club and the Dhaka University Cultural Forum (DUCF) on Thursday.
Sumana, who is currently in Bangladesh to participate in the Nazrul Sangeet Festival 2026 organised by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, opened the concert with Kazi Nazrul Islam's classic "Bhoriya Poran Shunitechhi Gaan", setting the tone for the evening.
Over the course of the nearly two-and-a-half-hour programme, she performed more than 25 songs, including Nazrul Sangeet, evergreen Bengali classics made popular by legendary artistes such as Arati Mukherjee, Nirmala Mishra, Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar, alongside contemporary favourites.
The audience also welcomed her original songs—"Keno Chhute Chai Bare Bare", "Miss Korchi", "Sayon" and "Bola Mushkil"—which added a personal touch to the performance.
Some of the evening's highlights included renditions of "Jeno Akashke Bolo Na Kokhono", "Emon Ekti Jhinuk", "Madhabi Modhupe Holo Mitali", "Jete Dao Amay", "Amar Ange Jole Rongmoshal", "O Shyam Jokhon Tokhon", "Prothome Shokal Sheshe Shondha", "Brishti Brishti Brishti", "Tomar Songe Dekha Na Hole", "Lolita Go", "E Shudhu Gaaner Din", "O Tota Pakhire", "Ami To Tomar Chirodiner", "O Majhire O Majhi", "Tomar Tane Sara Belar Gane", "Dekhechho Ki Take", "Moner Hodish", "De Re Na Na" and "Ei Banglar Matite". Her performance drew repeated applause from the audience.
At the end of the programme, Artist Club honoured Sumana with a floral tribute and a commemorative crest in recognition of her contribution to music.
The event was attended by Artist Club President Sujit Mustafa, DUCF President Mahfuzur Rahman, Artist Club Adviser AHM Mostafizur Rahman, as well as cultural personalities, musicians, media representatives and invited guests.
