Jasimuddin’s ‘Nakshi Kanthar Math’ revived by MAYA
The third edition of MAYA Bengal in Motion Presented by MW Bangladesh paid tribute to Palli Kabi Jasimuddin and his celebrated work “Nakshi Kanthar Math”. The event was jointly organised by MW Magazine Bangladesh and MAYA, a natural wellness brand of Square Toiletries Limited.
The programme was held on April 17 at Aloki Convention Centre in Dhaka. It was presented on the occasion of International Dance Day and the 123rd birth anniversary of poet Jasimuddin.
This year’s edition brought “Nakshi Kanthar Math” to the stage as a folk dance drama. The performance retold the emotional story of love and separation between Rupai and Saju. The production was first adapted into a dance drama in 1959 by Bulbul Lalitakala Academy.
The performance was curated by Anisul Islam Hero. It featured renowned artistes Shamim Ara Nipa, Shibli Mohammad, and Nrityanchal. The programme combined music, dance, and storytelling to present rural Bengal in a simple and expressive way.
The audience responded with strong appreciation throughout the evening. Many viewers expressed emotional connection with the performance.
The event was attended by the Managing Director of Square Toiletries Limited, Mr Anjan Chowdhury, along with other distinguished guests.
Speaking at the event, Ms Rumana Chowdhury, Editor and Publisher of MW Magazine Bangladesh, and Mr Malik Mohammed Sayeed, CEO of Square Toiletries Limited, delivered welcome speeches. Mr Sayeed said that MAYA continues to promote natural products across Bangladesh. He also said the brand remains committed to supporting art, culture, and heritage initiatives.
The organisers said MAYA has been closely associated with the Bengal in Motion platform since its beginning. The initiative aims to support local artistes and provide them opportunities for wider recognition.
The broadcast partner for the event is Maasranga Television. The PR partner is Mediacom Limited, while Aegis Security Forces served as security partner. Sun Communications Limited handled overall event management, and Eskay Events managed the stage decoration.
The programme will be broadcast on Maasranga Television on April 29, marking International Dance Day.
