Organised by the Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha, the 37th edition of the festival will take place at the Liberation War Museum auditorium in Agargaon. Preparations are now in their final stage, with artists engaged in regular rehearsals.

The Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University marked the 80th birth anniversary of Professor Matlub Ali on the evening of April 26 with an exhibition of his paintings, live musical performances, and a tribute discussion.

As part of the anniversary programme, Prangone Mor will stage “Tiner Talowar” on May 6 at 7 pm at the National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The production revisited the well-known Bengali story by Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury, later adapted into a film by Satyajit Ray. Combining dialogue, music and movement, the staging aimed to bring the familiar narrative to a live audience through a mix of theatrical and technical elements.

The programme was organised by the Music, Dance and Recitation Department under the management of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, with the support of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

The exhibition, which opened on April 14 at the Nazrul Stage and continued at Bardhaman House, featured more than a hundred portraits of prominent Bangladeshi poets, writers, essayists, and intellectuals. It also included rare photographs of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Since 1982, Aranyak has been regularly observing International Workers' Day, and this year is no exception. To mark the occasion, the troupe has arranged a daylong programme, while theatre group BotTola will stage two performances of the children’s play "Bonnotheriam".

The festival continues with performances from a wider lineup of troupes over two days and remains open to all audiences.

The exhibition “Dharon”, currently underway at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, reexamines folk art in Bangladesh, positioning it as a dynamic and evolving part of contemporary visual practice.

Despite their distinct artistic positions, the participating artists share “a commitment to authenticity and artistic integrity,” offering “a nuanced and contemporary perspective on Bangladesh—introspective yet expansive, grounded yet globally resonant.” The exhibition is open to visitors from 10 am to 5 pm, with visits on Saturdays and Sundays available by appointment only.

Veteran actors Wahida Mollick Jolly and Rahmat Ali reflect on three decades of marriage, arguing that trust, restraint and honesty and not only romance—have sustained their partnership.

A sculpture titled “The Industrial Tree”, designed by Ekushey Padak-winning sculptor Hamiduzzaman Khan, has been unveiled at the entrance of the Cumilla Economic Zone (CEZ) of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI), standing as a symbol of permanence and continuity.

If you are accompanied by even one companion you belong only half to yourself or even less in proportion.” This quote by Leonardo da Vinci, reiterated by Kamal Uddin, assistant professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, was invoked in association with the philosophy of artistic independence, setting a fitting tone for Rajib Ahasen’s first solo exhibition, “Embrace of the Earth”.

The opening day will feature “Rongmohol”, staged by Dhaka Theatre. On the second day, Jahangirnagar Theatre will present its production “Ashwatthama”.

Each canvas carried its own story — from fluid abstractions of enchanting rural scenes to intimate human moments and deep explorations of colour and form.

Rabindranath Tagore’s 165th birth anniversary and Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 127th birth anniversary will be observed with national-level celebrations, according to a preparatory meeting held on Sunday at the Secretariat.

The narrative follows a community pushed to the margins, where survival becomes a constant struggle. It depicts how deprivation, systemic neglect and exploitation lead to organised resistance among Santals seeking basic rights and recognition.

The dispute centres on theatre troupe Tarua, which had secured the National Theatre Hall for April 22–24 to stage “All Quiet on the Western Front”, an adaptation of the legendary book by the same name. The group began rehearsals and ticket sales after receiving approval.

An immersive workshop in Dhaka is set to explore how personal and everyday stories can be translated into dance and movement-based performance.

Held from April 17 to 20, 2026, the exhibition featured works by alumni artists of the discipline and presented a vivid cross-section of themes, forms, and visual languages.
