Chanchal Chowdhury has completed shooting for yet another Kolkata production, "Azadi", continuing his growing presence in the West Bengal film industry.

The actor made his Tollywood debut in 2024 with "Padatik", directed by Srijit Mukherji, and quickly gained recognition among filmmakers across the border. He later wrapped work on "Shekor", directed by Bratya Basu, towards the end of last year.

"Azadi", directed by Suman Mukhopadhyay, is set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition. Chowdhury plays a police officer investigating a murder during a time of mass displacement, as people move across borders in search of refuge. “It’s a deeply human story set during the Partition. My character is a police officer trying to uncover a murder amid the chaos of that time,” he said.

The film’s shooting was completed last month, and Chowdhury is scheduled to travel to Kolkata on April 15 for dubbing.

During the visit, he will also take part in the three-day cultural event "KCC Boithokkhana", organised by the Kolkata Centre for Creativity in Anandapur. On April 18, he will join a discussion alongside Anjan Dutt on the theme “Art film and commercial cinema: is the divide fading?”, moderated by Chandril Bhattacharya.

Chowdhury said he had previously been invited to the event but was unable to attend due to visa complications. “This time, I’m glad the schedules aligned. It’s always exciting to be part of such meaningful discussions,” he added.

Alongside his work in Kolkata, the actor remains busy in Bangladesh’s entertainment industry. His performances in recent Eid releases "Domm", "Bonolota Express" and "Pressure Cooker" have drawn attention, in addition to his appearances in Eid dramas.
