The Met Gala 2026 is already generating buzz across global fashion and entertainment circles, with organisers unveiling key details about the theme, dress code and expected attendees.

This year’s theme, Costume Art, will explore the relationship between clothing, the human body and artistic expression across different eras. The concept aims to highlight fashion not just as style, but as a form of visual storytelling.

In line with the theme, the dress code — Fashion Is Art — is expected to encourage celebrities to experiment with bold, creative designs. Attendees are likely to showcase dramatic silhouettes and couture pieces that blur the line between fashion and artistic statement.

The event will follow its traditional schedule, taking place on May 4 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. For audiences in South Asia, red carpet coverage is expected to begin in the early hours of May 5.

This year’s gala will be co-chaired by a high-profile group including Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour. Beyoncé’s return is particularly notable, marking her first appearance at the event in nearly a decade.

While the official guest list remains under wraps, reports suggest appearances by global stars such as Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa.

From India, confirmed attendees are expected to include Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra, Isha Ambani and Natasha Poonawalla. Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt are among those rumoured to attend.

However, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is reportedly set to miss this year’s gala due to scheduling commitments related to her upcoming series.

With its blend of high fashion, celebrity presence and artistic themes, the Met Gala 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year.
