Multi-generational cast unites in Eid telefilm ‘Zohra Begumer Icchapotro’
A new Eid-ul-Azha telefilm bringing together performers from four generations has wrapped filming in Dhaka. Titled “Zohra Begumer Icchapotro” (Zohra Begum’s Will), the project is directed by Arif Khan and is set to air as part of Channel i’s festive programming.
The ensemble cast includes veteran and contemporary stars such as Ferdousi Majumdar, Afzal Hossain, Mamunur Rashid, Tauquir Ahmed, Deepa Khandakar, Rawnak Hasan and Zakia Bari Mamo.
The story centres on Zohra Begum, a once-celebrated actress now in the final phase of her life, portrayed by Ferdousi Majumdar. As she confronts the gap between her lifelong ideals and present-day realities, tensions rise within her family. While her children argue from a practical standpoint, Zohra refuses to compromise her beliefs, leading to deep emotional conflict and strain in relationships.
Afzal Hossain plays her elder son, while Tauquir Ahmed and Zakia Bari Mamo appear as her younger son and daughter-in-law. Deepa Khandakar and Rawnak Hasan portray her daughter and son-in-law, respectively. Mamunur Rashid features in a key supporting role.
A notable aspect of the telefilm is that the story and screenplay have been written by Tauquir Ahmed, marking his return to writing for television after a long hiatus.
Director Arif Khan said he prioritises strong storytelling before casting. “Once the story is right, I approach the actors I need, and they respond positively. Their trust is the biggest achievement for me as a director,” he said, adding that staying honest to the work ensures everything else falls into place.
The telefilm also marks a significant return to television for Ferdousi Majumdar, which the director described as one of the project’s highlights.
“Zohra Begumer Icchapotro” (Zohra Begum’s Will) is expected to be one of the major attractions of Channel i’s Eid-ul-Azha lineup.
