Veteran Bangladeshi actress Rozina has announced that shooting for her second directorial film will begin soon, three years after the release of her debut film.

A celebrated figure in the country’s film industry, Rozina has worked in cinema for more than four decades and has appeared in over 300 films. She also gained attention for starring opposite Indian actor Mithun Chakraborty.

Alongside delivering numerous commercially successful films, she has also directed television dramas and films over the years.

Her first directed film, “Phire Dekha”, released on March 3, 2023, received a positive response from audiences. She is now preparing for her second film, tentatively titled “Ekhoni Shomoy”, though she noted that the name may still change.

Speaking about the project, Rozina said, “The title ‘Ekhoni Shomoy’ may still be changed. I will soon sit down to further develop the story. It is based on a story by Chatku Ahmed.” The screenplay has been written by noted filmmaker Chatku Ahmed.

She added, “Ekhoni Shomoy will be a family-oriented film. However, it will certainly carry a message. Audiences will receive a meaningful takeaway from this film.”

Highlighting the social theme, Rozina said, “In our society, especially in rural areas, dowry still exists. It is very harmful and, in fact, a form of crime. This issue will also be portrayed in my film.”

When asked about the shooting schedule, she said, “Nothing has been finalised yet. A film requires a large budget and a big team. I am organising everything step by step. I hope something good will come out of it.”

Regarding the cast, she added, “Everything is still in process. I can say that some very talented artistes will be part of the film.”

Reflecting on her lifelong connection with cinema, Rozina said, “I have spent an entire life working in films. I belong to this industry, and I love this art deeply.”

Recalling her early memories, she said, “My home is in Rajbari. There used to be a cinema hall called Chitra near our house. It took about 15 minutes to walk there, and I watched many films in my childhood. Interestingly, I still remember the first film I ever watched—‘Shat Bhai Champa’, starring Kabori Madam.”

She also spoke about her mother’s influence, saying, “My mother used to play the harmonium and sing at home. She sang Rabindra Sangeet and was also devoted to religious practices. I learned a lot from her.”

Speaking about her birthday on April 20, Rozina said, “I do not celebrate my birthday in a grand way. Still, I feel grateful to receive so much love from people throughout the day. It feels great to be respected and loved.”

When asked about her age, she replied with a smile, “Age is just a number. Life itself is a journey of resilience. I have been able to do some meaningful work, and I want to do more.”
