‘Surongo’, ‘Forget Me Not’ emerge top winners at Chorki Awards
The second edition of the Chorki Awards celebrated the best of Bangladesh’s OTT industry, recognising standout films, series and performances from both 2023 and 2024. The awards were presented during the day-long Chorki Carnival, where critics and subscribers honoured some of the year’s most acclaimed productions.
Among the biggest winners in the Critics’ Choice 2023 category was “Surongo”. Raihan Rafi won Best Director for the film, while Afran Nisho received the Best Actor award. The film also earned honours for cinematography, art direction and shared the Best Sound Design award.
Nazia Haque Orsha was named Best Actress for her performance in “Jahan”, while Shankha Dasgupta’s “Guti” dominated the series categories. Dasgupta won Best Director, with the series also taking home Best Screenplay. Azmeri Haque Badhan was recognised as Best Actress for “Guti”, while Nasir Uddin Khan won Best Actor for “Myself Allen Swapan”.
In the Subscribers’ Choice 2023 awards, “Surongo” was voted Best Film. Arifin Shuvoo and Afsana Ara Bindu won the audience awards for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively for “Unish20”. “Myself Allen Swapan” was named Best Series, with Nasir Uddin Khan and Sabila Nur winning the acting honours. The song “Ga Chuye Bolo”, performed by Tanjib Sarowar and Abanti Sithi, was selected as the year’s favourite song.
The Critics’ Choice 2024 awards saw “Forget Me Not” emerge as one of the night’s biggest winners. Director Robiul Alam Robi received Best Director, while the film also won Best Story and Screenplay. Mehazabien Chowdhury was named Best Actress for her performance in the film.
Pritom Hasan won Best Actor (Film) for “Kacher Manush Dure Thuiya”, while Mohammad Touqir Islam’s “Sinpaat” secured Best Director in the series category. FS Nayeem won Best Actor for “Kalpurush”, and Jinnat Ara was recognised as Best Actress for “Sinpaat”.
Several technical awards also went to productions including “Toofan”, “Kalpurush”, “Sinpaat” and “36-24-36”. Emerging talents Masha Islam (“Teka Pakhi”) and Rizvi Rizu (“2Sh”) were honoured with the Chorki Powerhouse of Tomorrow award for 2023 and 2024 respectively.
In the Subscribers’ Choice 2024 segment, “Kacher Manush Dure Thuiya” was voted Best Film. Shakib Khan and Masuma Rahman Nabila won the audience awards for their performances in “Toofan”, while “Adhunik Bangla Hotel” was named Best Series. Mosharraf Karim and Jaya Ahsan received the audience awards for Best Actor and Best Actress in the series category. The song “Laage Ura Dhura”, performed by Pritom Hasan and Debosrie Antara, won the Subscribers’ Choice award for Best Song.
