‘Humorous, witty, and endearing’: Runa Laila remembers Bappi Lahiri
As legendary composer-singer Bappi Lahiri left for his heavenly abode on Tuesday night, his family, friends, and fans are in a state of grief. Renowned singer Runa Laila posted a heartfelt tribute on social media, reminiscing about her bond with the musical icon.
"Shocked and saddened to hear the news of the demise of the immensely talented composer and singer Bappi Lahiri ji with whom I had the privilege of working on several film songs and music albums of which, one was the super hit album Superuna. We did numerous stage shows around the world. Above all this he was a friend. Humorous, witty and endearing," she wrote on Facebook.
"I find it difficult to say goodbye to this talent who had so many more mountains to conquer. In the past few days I have said goodbye to Lata Didi, Sandhya Mukherjee Didi and now Bappi ji. I don't have adequate words to mourn or enough tears to shed."
Runa Laila's pop album "Superuna" was composed by Bappi Lahiri. It was recorded in the famous Abbey Road Studios in London. In 1982, Runa Laila won the Golden Disk Award as the album sold over 1 lakh copies on the first day of its release.
She also sang the song, "Maar Gayo Re Rasgulla Khilai Ke Maar Gayo Re", alongside Mohammed Rafi and Anand Kumar C, for the film, "Jaan-e-Bahaar". Bappi Lahiri was the music composer of the film.
