Sandhya Mukherjee hospitalised

Renowned Bengali singer Sandhya Mukherjee was rushed to a hospital this morning after her health condition deteriorated.

The 90-year-old singer was facing breathing difficulties after which she was immediately rushed to a state-run hospital in Kolkata.

"She has infections in both her lungs. She slipped in the bathroom yesterday. She also fever. However, she is alert and is undergoing treatment at the Woodburn Block," quoted sources in the health department to The Telegraph Online.

Earlier on, the noted singer refused an offer of a Padma Shri award when she was contacted on phone by Indian government officials.

Sandhya Mukherjee, whose voice has kept generations of music lovers spellbound, received "Banga Bibhushan", an award given by the West Bengal government.

A classical and semi-classical singer, Mukherjee has sung for numerous Bengali and Hindi movies, working with some of the leading music directors of all times, including S D Burman, Madan Mohan, Naushad Ali, Anil Biswas and Salil Chowdhury, among others.
