Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are reuniting on screen in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film “What Happens at Night”, a psychological drama rooted in the breakdown of a marriage.

The first-look image from the film, shared by DiCaprio and Scorsese on social media, shows the lead pair walking hand in hand through a stark, wintry landscape—hinting at the film’s unsettling tone. Production is currently underway.

Adapted from “What Happens at Night” by Peter Cameron, the story follows an American couple who travel to a remote European town to adopt a child. As events unfold, their surroundings grow increasingly disorienting, exposing fractures in their relationship and sense of self.

The supporting cast includes Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, and Jared Harris.

The film marks another collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese, whose long-standing partnership spans titles such as “The Aviator”, “Gangs of New York”, “The Wolf of Wall Street”, and “Shutter Island”. For Lawrence, however, this will be her first time working with the director.

In a past conversation, DiCaprio described Scorsese’s working style as deeply referential, often drawing from classic cinema to shape performances and tone. He noted that the director frequently organises screenings to help actors understand the rhythm and mood he is aiming for.

The project is backed by Apple Studios, which previously produced Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon”. A release date has not yet been announced.
