'Joler Chobi, Matir Chobi' film festival showcases films in Sundarbans region
Global Media Makers of Film Independent, a renowned film development company in the United States, has joined hands with MyPixelStory, a prominent production company in Bangladesh, to create a unique opportunity for marginalised communities who live near water bodies.
Recognising the challenges faced by these communities in accessing films that portray their lives, a film festival titled "Joler Chobi, Matir Chobi" was organised in the border area adjacent to the Sundarbans.
The festival, held yesterday and today, showcased an array of films at the Burigoalini Government Primary School ground in Shyamnagar, Bangladesh, and the Kalitala High School ground in the Hingalganj border area of India.
The opening film of the festival was the critically acclaimed "Shunte Ki Pao!", directed by renowned Bangladeshi filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon, which was followed by the screening of "Nonajoler Kabbo," directed by Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, a multiple National Film Award winner.
Today, the festival will continue with two highly acclaimed Indian films, namely "From the Shadows" and "Moddhikhane Char," captivating the audience with their storytelling prowess.
Expressing his vision for the festival, Rezwan Shahriar Sumit, one of the main organisers, stated, "In this era of globalisation, I firmly believe that true development and prosperity can only be achieved through cultural exchange. The bond between our two countries will be strengthened through the exchange of cultural expressions."
