Today, (May 15) marks the birthday of the celebrated actor Azizul Hakim. This year, he is spending the special day on the set of an Eid drama shoot. “I enjoy working. Work is everything for a person like me,” he said. “It’s overwhelming to receive so much love and warm wishes from people, and that itself is a blessing.”

The actor shared that the very first birthday wish came from his daughter shortly after midnight. “My daughter, Nazah, was the first to wish me this year. I was truly touched,” he said with a smile. “Then came wishes from my son and my wife.”

For decades, Azizul Hakim has remained one of television’s most beloved actors. Asked how he views the immense affection audiences continue to shower upon him, the actor responded with humility. “It is all a blessing from the Almighty,” he said. “My birthday is in May, but it is also the month when I lost my father. That is why I do not celebrate the occasion in a grand way. Still, I deeply value and respect the love people show me. As an actor, I have received endless affection and prayers from audiences, and I will always remain grateful for that.”

He added that many viewers from the younger generation are now discovering and revisiting the dramas he worked on during the 1990s and beyond. “Wherever I go, young audiences often talk about those dramas and praise them. That gives me immense joy and satisfaction. Their appreciation means a lot to me,” he said. At the same time, he has been frequently sharing the screens with actors and directors from this generation. “I love working with younger actors and directors,” he said. “They bring fresh thoughts, fresh ideas, and a new way of storytelling.”

The actor mentioned working with Mehazabien Chowdhury, Yash Rohan, Tawsif Mahbub and Tanjin Tisha, among many others from the younger generation.

“They are all wonderful,” he said. “They respect and love me immensely, and I am very fond of them too.”

He also revealed that he recently completed work on a drama titled “Dorodiya”, starring alongside Tawsif, which is expected to air this Eid. “I am hopeful about the project,” he said. “A few other projects are also scheduled to be released during Eid, some of them featuring younger actors as well.”

Looking back on his long acting career, Azizul Hakim says he feels content — both professionally and personally.

“I am happy with my life as an artiste,” he reflected. “I am also very happy with my family life. I have been blessed with a beautiful family, and together we are doing well. Overall, I feel fulfilled in my artistic, personal, and social life.”

The veteran actor also spoke about his years on stage and the values that shaped him as a performer.

“I worked in theatre (Aranyak Natyadal) for many years. My mentor was Mamunur Rashid. I have always tried to work with sincerity and responsibility,” he said. “I never had excessive ambition, and perhaps that is why I feel content today. I have tried to remain honest in my work.”

As for his birthday wish this year, his hopes remain simple. “I seek everyone’s blessings,” he said. “I hope to stay healthy. And to the audience, I want to say — I carry immense love for all of you. I have received so much love from people throughout my life.”
