Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan began a new innings in his life yesterday. Shakib and his wife Umme Ahmed Shishir were blessed with a girl in the early hours of Monday.

The left-hander, who had left for the United States only on Sunday night following the first ODI against Zimbabwe, couldn't be there in person during the time of the birth of his 'little princess' and only got to know of the news once he landed at the Dubai airport. The baby was born on Monday at around 2:00am Bangladesh time.

A delighted Shakib immediately spread the good news through his facebook page.

"On this beautiful Sunday, the 8th of November, 2015, Shishir and I have been blessed by the Almighty with a piece of heaven...Shishir and our little princess are both in good health.

Thank you for all your sincere prayers, kind thoughts and warm wishes...Please pray for us and especially our daughter so that she can grow to her full potential with humility, compassion and love for all. Ameen," Shakib wrote.

After playing the first ODI, where he claimed his maiden five-for, Shakib was scheduled to feature in Monday's second game but had to leave early for the United States when he was updated with the news that the ETD had been brought forward.

Shakib's mother Shirina Akhter was over the moon with the news. "I can't describe how happy I am...."
