India's daily Covid-19 caseload sees 43% drop from yesterday
India's daily Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, ending this morning, registered a big decline with 1,247 infections being reported in a day.
The fresh Covid-19 cases in 24 hours mark a fall of about 43 percent from yesterday's figure of 2,183. The sharp increase had caused concerns over another surge in infections.
India's total tally of Covid-19 cases rose to 4,30,45,527 while the number of active cases went up to 11,860, according to the Health Ministry data updated today, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The southern state of Kerala reported its Covid-19 data after a gap of five days on Monday, thereby pushing the total caseload across the country.
The Indian government noted that Kerala reporting figures after a gap of five days has skewed India's key pandemic monitoring indicators such as cases, deaths and positivity rate.
In 24 hours, the death toll climbed to 5,21,966 with one fresh fatality being reported from Uttar Pradesh, the data said.
The active cases comprise 0.03 percent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate remained at 98.76 percent, the ministry said.
The daily positivity rate was recorded as 0.31 percent and the weekly positivity rate as 0.34 percent, according to the ministry.
However, the governments of Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state, and Haryana, adjacent to Delhi, yesterday announced wearing of masks mandatory in and around the Indian capital, including the satellite cities of Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority is expected to meet tomorrow to take a call on a proposal to restore penalty for not wearing masks.
