27 children with measles symptoms undergoing treatment at Gazipur hospital
A total of 27 children with symptoms of measles are undergoing treatment at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital as of this morning.
Besides, three children admitted have already recovered and returned home in the past three days.
Director Aminul Islam confirmed the development to The Daily Star around 10:50am today.
Data from the hospital’s statistics department shows the patients were admitted to the paediatric ward on the 10th floor.
Among the admitted patients, seven are from Gazipur Sadar upazila and six from the city corporation area. Others came from Kaliganj, Sreepur, and Kaliakair upazilas, hospital authorities said.
Family members said the illness typically began with fever, followed by red rashes and weakness, prompting them to seek hospital care.
Saleha Begum, mother of a child from Sofipur in Kaliakair, said her child initially developed a fever before rashes spread across the body.
“We first sought local treatment, but as there was no improvement, we admitted the child to the hospital. Now, under doctors’ supervision, the condition has slightly improved,” she said.
Meanwhile, in Kaliakair, Sadia Tasnim Munmun, upazila health and family planning officer, said samples from eight suspected cases were sent to Dhaka yesterday.
“One of them has tested positive,” she added.
