Two more suspected measles deaths at RMCH push toll to 42

Twenty new admissions in 24 hours as patient load continues to rise at hospital

Two more patients with measles-like symptoms have died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), raising the total number of suspected measles deaths at the facility to 42 this year.

According to the hospital’s latest update, the deaths occurred within the 24-hour period ending at 8:00am today.

During the same period, 20 new patients with suspected measles were admitted, while five were discharged, said Dr Shankar K Biswas, the hospital’s spokesperson.

At present, 138 patients with suspected measles are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

“So far this year, a total of 411 suspected measles patients have been admitted to the hospital,” he added.
