State Minister for Health and Family Welfare MA Muhit today said the government will recruit 1 lakh health workers to enhance the quality of healthcare services at the grassroots level.

“The health sector has been plagued by various irregularities and corruption over the last 16 years,” he told reporters after visiting the Sirajganj 250-bed General Hospital at noon.

"We have taken charge only two weeks ago, and we have already initiated various plans to meet the public's expectations regarding health services,” he added.

The state minister emphasised that the initiative is not just about recruitment but also about ensuring accountability and quality.

"In addition to hiring 1 lakh health workers, we will ensure they receive advanced training and maintain a regular presence at their workplaces,” he said.

“We are working to increase doctors, modern equipment, and essential medicines across all hospitals,” he added.

In response to a query regarding the current countrywide shortage of rabies vaccines in government hospitals, the state minister acknowledged the crisis. “A coordination meeting has already been held and rapid steps are being taken to resolve the shortage,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Muhit attended a views-exchange meeting at the Shahid AKM Shamsuddin Conference Room of the Sirajganj deputy commissioner’s office.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Aminul Islam, Superintendent of Police Saiful Islam Santu, Civil Surgeon Dr Nurul Amin, district BNP General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachhu, and the Superintendent of Sirajganj General Hospital Dr Akikun Nahar Moni, among others.
