Infant’s death prompts measles investigation in Gopalganj
The Gopalganj Civil Surgeon's Office has launched an investigation to identify suspected cases after a 10-month-old of the district died with measles-like symptoms in Dhaka on March 27.
Meanwhile, a decision has been made to introduce isolation facilities in all government hospitals in the district.
Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Sayeed Mohammad Faruk told The Daily Star today that a committee has been formed comprising doctors from Muksudpur upazila.
The team is expected to visit the area tomorrow to collect information and identify suspected cases.
He added that there are currently no measles patients admitted in district hospitals and the situation was under control. “There’s also an adequate vaccine stock.”
The deceased, 10-month-old Tuba Islam Toha, was the daughter of Tuhin Sheikh and Nazma Begum from Hogladanga village under Tengrakhola union in Muksudpur upazila. She died on March 27 while undergoing treatment in Dhaka.
Nazma Begum told journalists that her daughter had fever on March 19, followed by breathing difficulties the next day.
She was taken to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex, then a local clinic, then Faridpur Medical College Hospital, and finally to a private hospital in Dhaka. Although she showed slight improvement in the ICU, she died on March 27.
