Honouring business heroes
ON Sunday DHL and The Daily Star honoured three individuals and an institution for their outstanding contributions to the economic growth of the country. It was recognition of achievements of some of the leaders in the business world whose ventures were driven by more than merely profit motive. These achievers are magnificent examples of courage, vision and honesty. That neither age nor gender is a bar to fulfilling one's dream has been exemplified by two business women of different generations but with very similar attitude and carrying the same degree of courage, self confidence and honesty. And their achievements have been despite the odds that the corporate world faces in every sphere of its work.
However, while we as private organisations acknowledge the performance of the business world we would like to call upon the government to not only formulate more business friendly policies but also implement them rigorously so that doing business in the country becomes hassle-free. In this regard the government should focus more on the problems faced by the women entrepreneurs.
And while we repeat our commendations to the winners and the business world in general we end by stating our expectations from the business community. We would hope that labour would be accorded the highest consideration amongst all the factors of production, which should be made to feel a stakeholder in the enterprise, and a transparent management which, among other things, should maximize employee engagement for enhancing production. And none of these should be at the expense of the environment.
