Shako's effort at celebrating International Women's Day was done by a splendid art exhibit at the Danish Embassy. The paintings promote gender equality all around the world. Single-minded and persevering, the dedicated artists show the progress of women.
Fareha Zeba, who happens to be a teacher at Scholastica for many years has presented a women's face within a floating beige and burnt –sienna flower. The woman is surrounded by many flake-like flowers and leaves, mostly white in colour. White snowy dots, yellow, emerald and cobalt form the dream-like backdrop.
Farida Zaman, educated at Baroda and Santiniketan, is the Professor of Drawing and painting at Dhaka University. She teaches at UODA too. In her works, blue is the overpowering colour of the composition, representing the river with its fish and nets.
Farzana Rahman Bobby, with an MFA in Printmaking from University of Development Alternative, depicts her “Seasons” with aplomb. In her mixed media print she presents a twisted and turning leaf, with seeds and delicate hair-like roots of branches. Her print is a delightful sight like the young and persevering print-maker herself.
Farzana Islam Milky's sculpture of the couple proves her forte in metal as this image is in aluminium. The figures of the man and woman are of the same height. Another delectable piece is Habiba Akhter Papia's “Mysterious memories" in brass.
Kanak Chanpa Chakma's contribution for the seated ethnic beauty, is superb, to say the least. Kuhu, who has done her MFA for the University of Dhaka and is a free-lance artist, presents “Halakoni” in Acrylic and Screen Painting on paper.
Nasreen Begum, professor, Department of Oriental Art, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, has a gorgeous female figure, dressed all in bright red with floral patterns on her shawl or “sari” has eyes of a gazelle and lips of a cupid.
Sulekha Chowdhury's beauty with a white pigeon on her head and a whistle like object on her mouth, has duck-yellow and green dots for the backdrop. The elongated faces by Rebeka Sultana have the charm and poise, as have all her figures, seen before.
