New Faces in the Showbiz Limelight!

Rafi Hossain

We've written quite a few times about Lux's talent hunt and grooming efforts. For the last two years, Emami, another FMCG brand which specializes in cosmetics, has been organizing a male talent hunt program. Although it is too soon to tell about the impact of Emami's efforts on the showbiz world, since they've been around for only two years, but we hope that “The Ultimate Man” contest will make a major contribution to encouraging bright and handsome youngsters to join the Bangladesh media, which is currently suffering from a lack of new male lead actors. This issue is a very special one, since we are not only presenting the winner of this year's “The Ultimate Man” contest, but also in the same issue, we are pleased to feature the five finalists of the Lux Channel i Superstar event, the most glitzy and most glamorous event of the year! They all came to visit Star Showbiz at the Daily Star, and we had a vibrant and enthusiastic talk about their journey in the contest, their extensive grooming session and how much they feel they have learnt, how their loved ones are reacting to their current standing in the contest, their future plans, etc. To be honest, while talking to them, in my mind I was looking for the potential winner. But I could not single out any of the five to be better or smarter than the others in any way! I was very impressed indeed. I felt that each of the five really has the potential to be crowned this year's superstar, and it will be a close call indeed. All five finalists were very well spoken, which showed me the grooming sessions were useful to them. Since this is a competition, at the end of the day, one person will have to be singled out to win, and we will bring her on the cover of Star Showbiz. But, I'm sure any of these five finalists will be able to develop a career in the media if they plan to do so. I've had the opportunity to closely view both the Superstar and the Ultimate Man contests and I'm very pleased that they both exist. But I must say that in general, the girls are much smarter and more presentable than the boys in Bangladesh, judging by the finalists of these two contests. Although, this may not be a fair comparison since Emami has been organizing the male talent hunt contest for only two years, and we shall definitely revisit this issue again and again in years to come. For now, we at Star Showbiz wish Md. Abul Kalam Azad, the winner of this year “The Ultimate Man” contest, the very best in his future endeavors! To learn more about him, flip to page 5. To read about the vivacious finalists of this year's Lux Channel i Superstar, head on to our centrefold.
