DU student files case against seven Facebook pages over derogatory posts
A Dhaka University (DU) student has filed a case today against seven Facebook pages for allegedly making derogatory remarks about her and a fellow student.
The accused pages are Fight Against Hindutva (Backup), Fight Against Hindutva – Official, FAH Exclusive, Osman Chy Chand, SB Billal Hasanat Anu, Reashad Farhan Hosen, and Harul Haque.
The complainant, Jannatul Ferdous Jui, a DU Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader, filed the case under Sections 25, 26, and 27 of the Cyber Security Ordinance with the Cyber Tribunal in Dhaka.
Her lawyer, Sayed Nazrul Islam, confirmed the filing.
Judge Mohammad Saidur Rahman Gazi of the tribunal recorded Jui’s statement, said Md Juwel Miah, bench assistant of the tribunal.
The judge directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate the matter and submit a report by March 5, he added.
“On December 23, the accused made false and obscene comments involving the complainant and another woman that promoted religious hatred and obscenity. Acting in concert, the accused repeatedly opened ‘bot IDs’ under different names at various times to disseminate and publish defamatory, obscene, false, and untrue comments against various people, including the complainant,” the case documents said.
