EC resumes NID correction services after two-month suspension
Election Commission (EC) has resumed National Identity Card (NID) correction services, ending a suspension that lasted two months and two days.
EC officials said the activities had been halted to facilitate postal voting registration ahead of the 13th national parliamentary polls and the referendum, scheduled for February 12.
Confirming the development, EC’s NID wing Director General ASM Humayun Kabir told The Daily Star this afternoon at the EC headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka, “Our voter list has been completed. As part of regular operations, the NID correction service is now being resumed.”
Explaining the suspension, Humayun said, “Our OCV (Out‑of‑Country Voting) and IPCV (In‑Country Postal Voting) systems were major concerns. Registrations for these were ongoing during this period. Now that they are finished, we have returned to normal operations.”
The EC had suspended NID correction services on November 24 to prevent misinformation or changes to voter data during the voter list finalisation process.
With postal vote registration now complete, the constitutional body has reopened the service.
