The home ministry has issued a statement today following criticism over not releasing Bagerhat BCL leader Jewel Hasan Saddam, detained at Jashore Central Jail, on parole following the deaths of his wife and child.

In the statement, the ministry claimed that no application was submitted by Saddam’s family to the Jashore deputy commissioner and district magistrate or to the jail authorities seeking his release on parole.

“Based on the family’s verbal intention, a decision was taken to show the bodies of his wife and child to Saddam at the Jashore jail gate,” the statement read.

The statement added that maximum cooperation was extended on humanitarian grounds by the Jashore district administration and jail authorities.

The ministry rejected reports in various media outlets and on social media claiming that a parole application had been filed, calling them incorrect.
