Six farmers abducted at gunpoint from Teknaf Hills
Six local farmers were allegedly abducted from a hilly area in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday evening.
According to local sources, the incident occurred in the Minabazar Konapara area of Whykong union, where they were working as day labourers at the foot of a hill. A group of armed men reportedly held them at gunpoint and took them away.
The abducted individuals are Mohammad Jamir, 32; Shafi Alam, 13; Mohammad Alam alias Mahat Alam, 18; Zahid Hossain alias Munna, 30; Mozaher, 60; and Mostak, 12.
Sub‑Inspector Khokon Chandra Rudra, in‑charge of the Whyking police outpost, confirmed receiving information about the abduction.
He said police, along with Rab, BGB, and Armed Police Battalion, conducted operations in the remote hilly area but could not trace the victims till Tuesday evening.
SI Khokon claimed that they were not receiving cooperation from victims' families for the rescue drive.
Ejahar Hossain, father of abducted Mohammad Alam, said his son had gone to work in the fields as usual when armed criminals suddenly arrived and took the workers away.
He said the family members were in deep distress following the incident.
