Starmer also pledged continued UK support for Bangladesh in hosting over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees, adding, “I look forward to this next chapter in the partnership between our two countries.”

Meanwhile, Switzerland President Guy Parmelin also sent a congratulatory letter, wishing Tarique a successful term.

Parmelin wrote, “Your appointment marks an important moment for Bangladesh, and I am confident that your leadership will contribute to the continued progress and development of the country.”

He expressed hope for further strengthening of longstanding relations between Switzerland and Bangladesh, and for deepening cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
