Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today vowed to safeguard the country’s honour, drawing inspiration from Abu Sayed, a martyr of the July 2024 uprising.

He made the remark this morning after offering prayers at the grave of Abu Sayed at Babonpur village in Pirganj upazila, Rangpur.

“We will not mortgage the honour of even an inch of this country’s land to anyone. Just as Abu Sayed stood with his chest bared, we too will stand the same way for the country,” Shafiqur said.

He emphasised building a humane Bangladesh where people of all religions and communities live together in peace, free from discrimination, and contribute to nation‑building according to merit and competence.

“We want justice, and we are committed to establishing justice. We have no hidden or personal agenda,” he added.

On political conduct, Shafiqur asserted that since August 5, 2024, Jamaat had refrained from extortion, land‑grabbing, corruption, harassment through cases, or personal revenge.

He highlighted the unity of Jamaat-led 10-party alliance to resist division and urged voters to support the alliance. “Standing with us means standing with Bangladesh. Standing with us means ensuring a safe and dignified life,” he said.

Addressing young and first‑time voters, he said, “Be ready so that the true reflection of your votes is ensured in the next election. If necessary, you will have to fight once again as July fighters. The victory of the people must be reclaimed,” he urged.

Shafiqur expressed condolences to Abu Sayed’s family, embracing his father Makbul Hossain and inquiring about their condition.

Jamaat chief was accompanied by Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, central working committee member Principal Maulana Momtaz Uddin, Rangpur‑6 candidate Maulana Nurul Amin, Rangpur‑4 candidate and NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen, Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Central Secretary Sibgatullah, and other central and local leaders.
