Diplomat's words
We express our extreme outrage at several recent comments made by the Indian high commissioner against Bangladeshi people in general. We find the comments about water experts, about the visa seekers and about migrant workers highly deplorable and outside of any diplomatic norm.
These remarks not only highly offended our patriotic feelings but also have shown India's total lack of respect for the people of Bangladesh.
India has a total monopoly in commerce, trade and services in Bangladesh, be it in agriculture, finance, IT, industries or even in jewelleries. India earns billions of Taka each year from Bangladesh as it is used just as a market place to sell Indian products. We don't see the Bangladesh government addressing these unjust imbalances and unfair practices. There are thousands of Indian goods & services that are outside of Bangladesh tax network as those Indian companies don't keep local offices to avoid taxes or operate underground. Every year we are lowering or eliminating tariffs for Indian products & services. All these monopolizations are occurring at the expense of developing Bangladesh's local industries. We never see our diplomats complaining about this in India or even at home.
We are equally disappointed about the present government's utter lack of any response to the high commissioner's reprehensible words. To our amazement, on the contrary, the present government seemed to be interested in defending these humiliating comments.
We deserve a government which defends the interest of its people, rather than that of India or any other country, for that matter.
