Policing cannot control prices, says Tapan
Energy and Mineral Resources Advisor Tapan Chowdhury yesterday said it is not possible to control market prices by using police, BDR or joint forces.
What is needed for keeping things under control is sincerity of all concerned. There has been a recent rise in the international market prices, which had influenced in our country also, he said.
The government is trying its best to keep prices of essentials within the reach of the commonman, he said while addressing a view-exchange meeting with Sylhet Chamber leaders, government officials and the elite at the Circuit House.
Sylhet Chamber of Commerce and Industry SCCI)President Zunnun Mahmud Khan and former president of Sylhet Bar Association Azizul Malik Chowdhury and Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (North)Israil Hawlader also spoke. Deputy Commissioner Harun Ur Rashid Khan chaired the meeting.
On power shortage, he said the situation will improve when some major plants will add electricity to the National Grid within a year.
Tapan Chowdhury earlier visited the 20 MW power plant at Kumargaon in the city suburb. It will be commissioned next month, he told newsmen there.
The government is working on setting up another 150 MW plant nearby. Land acquisition and the other works are going on and it may start power generation by 2009, the advisor said.
