French minister and burka

My attention has been drawn to the news on the above subject published in your daily on August 16. I am rather shocked that the Hon. French minister Fadela Amara, being a Muslim, could demand a ban on burka. Wearing burka or covering the body of Muslim females from head to foot while appearing in public is not a man made custom. It is a religious injunction which the Muslims all over the world including Ms. Amara are supposed to follow. For this even in France Muslim women were fighting a legal battle. Burka is for Muslim identity and a protection against male overtures and advances. If I remember correctly, even a non- Muslim like Mrs. Coone , a member of the Australian Chamber had remarked that modestly dressed women are better protected. Moreover, the nuns all over the world cover their bodies from head to foot. In their case, nobody says that they are enslaved or suffer humiliation. I, therefore, condemn the French minister's observation that she made about burka.
