Punish war criminals, demand freedom fighters
Freedom fighters in Dinajpur and Satkhira yesterday demanded punishment of war criminals.
Our Dinajpur Correspondent reports: Freedom fighters and cultural activists here yesterday in a written statement jointly signed by the commander of Dinajpur unit command of Muktijoddha Sangsad and Sammilito Sangskritik Jote convenor strongly condemned the recent comments of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed and demanded punishment to the war criminals.
Terming the comments of Mujaheed 'an act of treason,' they urged the caretaker government to bring the war criminals to book for their trial.
They said that these people opposed our liberation war and helped the Pakistani forces in killing Bengali people in 1971. As the war criminals are very strong, so they are claiming now that there is no existence of war criminal in the country. They are still engaged in conspiracy against the nation, they said.
Signatories to the statement are Sammilito Sangskritik Jote convenor Miza Anwarul Islam Tanu and commander of Dinajpur unit command of Muktijoddha Sangsad Md Mossaddek Hossin Labu.
In a separate statement, Dinajpur unit command of Muktijoddha Sangsad demanded punishment to all identified war criminals including Jamaat leaders Matiur Rahman Nizami and Mujaheed.
The statement said the war criminals are trying to give false explanation to people about the general amnesty. It is high time to punish the war criminals. Truth and justice would not be established in the country until and unless the war criminals are tried.
Moreover, this also necessary to establish democracy.
Our Satkhira Correspondent reports: Kalaroa upazila unit command of Muktijoddha Sangsad has urged the authorities concerned not to enlist names of war criminals in the voter list. They demanded trial and punishment to the war criminals.
Jointly signed by Abdul Gaffar and Habibur Rahman convenor and joint convenor of the unit command, the statement said the war criminals belonging to Jamaat were involved in killing, loot, rape and arson through formation of Rajakar, Al-Badr and Al-Shams forces.
They killed indiscriminately intellectuals and brave sons of the soil on December 14 just before the independence of the country. But now they are misleading the nation by giving false and fabricated statements.
They also urged the care taker government to rename several roads after names of six martyred freedom fighters named Zakaria, Emdadul Haque, Sohrab Hossain, Nur Mohammad, Hafiz Uddin and Abu Bakar.
