Our Correspondent, Satkhira
A workshop organised by Satkhira Reporters Unity yesterday urged the government to take steps immediately to dredge Kabodak, Betna and Marichchap rivers in the region to remove the persistent water-logging on croplands that affects livelihood of over 33 lakh people who are fully dependent on agriculture. People in 53 unions in Satkhira, Jessore and Khulna districts are affected for long by the problem, they said. The workshop held at Satkhira Officers Club was organised with the help of Kendriyo Pani Committee. With Committee president ABM Safiqul Islam in the chair, the meeting was addressed by, among others, former lawmaker Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman, Union Parishad (UP) Forum Convenor Kamruzzaman, local body leaders and journalists.
