BNP leader held in murder case
A Kishoreganj court yesterday rejected the bail petition of Karimganj upazila BNP president Rafiqur Rahman and ordered the police to interrogate him in jail gate in connection with a murder case.
Judicial Magistrate Jakir Hossain Khan passed the order.
Karimganj police led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) ADM Ziaul Karim arrested Rafiqur Rahman at his business centre in Karimganj upazila Sadar on Monday night.
During primary interrogation, Rafiqur Rahman admitted to his involvement to Akhtarunnesa Antara's murder at Urdighi village of the uapazila on May 7 in 2005, OC Ziaul Karim said.
Akhtarunnesa Antara, wife of Tofayel Ahmed Zahid, chairman of Gundhar union parishad under the upazila, was killed allegedly by an eight-member group engaged by her husband Zahid.
The following day, Antara's father Abdul Barik went to Karimganj Police Station to file a murder case but the police refused to record it, said Abdul Barik.
Arrested on August 17, Zahid was put on remand for 10 days in two terms and following his information police arrested upazila BNP president Rafique, police said.
